Guest Information

We run a tight little operation here and pride ourselves on our timeliness, to be sure. But we’re small, so we cater to our guests and flex to accommodate them. So if we need to make a stop to grab a fellow traveler, we hope you’ll pack some extra patience in your carry on. On the bright side, at least you’re not waiting in line at the ferry.

Flight Considerations

San Juan Airlines flights are conducted in the rugged environment of the Pacific Northwest. Your safety and the safety of our crews is our primary concern. All flights are subject to weather, runway conditions, regulatory considerations, and pilot and aircraft availability. All flights are conducted under visual flight rules (VFR). Night VFR flights are conducted under stricter regulatory standards which may delay or cancel the flight. All flights depart at the pilot’s discretion, and San Juan Airlines and its employees assume no responsibility for any and all loss or liability arising from any flight delays or cancellations as a result of weather, mechanical discrepancies, regulatory restrictions, or any other circumstance.

Our Schedules

While we strive to release our flights on time, departure and arrival times are approximate and may be affected by routing variations, weather delays and diversions, as well as mechanical discrepancies. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to departure. Flight closure time will be no later than 10 minutes prior to flight departure time. In order to maintain an on-schedule operation, flights may depart prior to scheduled departure time. Flights leaving the San Juan Islands are routed based on numerous factors and may not depart from the same island at the same time each day. Guests bringing more than one bag or more than 40-pounds of baggage are requested to arrive early to allow extra time for baggage handling. Guests failing to arrive on time or bringing excess baggage without allowing extra time for baggage handling may be denied boarding or fail to have their baggage loaded. We recommend guests allow extra time when traveling.

Children

Children that have not yet reached their 2nd birthday may ride on a parent’s lap for no extra charge. Proof of age will be required. All other children will be required to occupy a paid seat. We do not offer discounted fares for children. While infant car seats can usually be accommodated, larger car seats may not fit in the aircraft and are subject to baggage limits. Unaccompanied minors under the age of 16 may be eligible to fly alone provided they will be dropped off by a parent or guardian and met at their destination by a parent or guardian.

Guest Weights

San Juan Airlines is a safety-first airline operating weight-sensitive aircraft. Please be aware it is never our intention to embarrass anyone regarding their weight but having correct weights is critical to safe operations. In order to operate our flights safely each guest will be asked to provide their true body weight and may be asked to weigh in. All items to be loaded into the aircraft will be also weighed. Guests in excess of 300-pounds may be required to pay for an extra seat or be delayed for a flight with extra space available.

Pets And Service Animals

Pets and service animals are welcome at San Juan Airlines provided they are harmless, well behaved, inoffensive and odorless. Pets and service animals under 20-pounds may travel on their human’s lap. Pets and service animals over 20-pounds will be required to ride in the baggage area. For everyone’s safety, pets and service animals will not be able to ride on a seat or on the floor in the seating area. Pet carriers may be required (see BAGGAGE above for information on pricing). Without exception, all pets must be on a leash. For their comfort, your pet should have a blanket or towel to lay on.

NOTE: If you have pet allergies please notify your reservation agent at the time you book your flight. Because San Juan Airlines is pet-friendly, all of our aircraft may have pet dander at any time.

Payment And Cancellation

All fares and charters must be secured in advance with a credit card (we accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express) or payment via PayPal. We accept cash or checks but payment must be made at the time of reservation or other arrangements for payment made. We will charge the credit card holding the reservation for any unpaid amounts prior to flight.

Charter flights require a 50% deposit at the time of reservation with full payment due 48-hours prior to departure. Full payment is due for all other flights 48-hours prior to departure.

Reservations cancelled within 24-hours of flight time are subject to a 25% cancellation fee. Reservations cancelled after 5:00 pm the day prior to departure and guests failing to show for a flight are subject to a 100% cancellation fee.

Parking

We have limited parking for San Juan Airlines guests at our home base at the Bellingham Intl. Airport. However, we offer free parking for the first 24 hours to our guests, $7.00 per day thereafter when available. Please call to inquire about overnight parking. All vehicles parking overnight must have a parking pass displayed on the dashboard or risk being towed.

Baggage

Baggage includes all bags, carry-ons, laptops, lunch pails, purses, other items and pets (see below for more information on pets). All baggage must be weighed. Because we are limited to the amount of space in our aircraft and the weight they can carry we prefer soft-sided bags with smaller dimensions. Additional, overweight and oversized baggage is accepted on a standby basis. Each bag that does not meet our size and weight restrictions may require special handling and additional fees. To avoid charges for oversize or overweight baggage, your bag must be 40 pounds or less and not exceed 50 linear inches (length + width + height). We are not authorized to carry hazardous materials such as flammables, compressed gases, batteries and toxic substances, to name a few. If you are uncertain if the goods you will be bringing may be denied loading, please give us a call.

Guests With Disabilities

San Juan Airlines strives to offer its services to everyone but safety is always our first goal. While there are challenges to getting in and out of our aircraft, and regulations to be followed regarding safe flight, we do try to accommodate guests within reason. Guests must be physically capable of getting into and out of our aircraft with minimal assistance. While we are exempt from accessibility requirements, if you have a disability which requires assistance please give us a call and we’ll try to accommodate you.

Impaired Guests

At San Juan Airlines’ sole discretion, impaired guests will be denied boarding. This includes guests who appear intoxicated or who otherwise appear to be unable to enter or exit the aircraft safely or carry out safety-related functions in a flight emergency (such as being able to open the door).

Freight

San Juan Airlines is pleased to offer same-day air freight to the San Juan Islands. Freight and packages are accepted for shipment on a space available basis. San Juan Airlines is not authorized to carry hazardous materials. Please call us for more information.

Price Quotes

Written quotes for services expire after 30 days. We reserve the right to alter pricing and schedules at any time for any quote provided via telephone provided that a reservation has not been booked and paid for.

Airline Reciprocity Agreements

San Juan Airlines has reciprocal agreements with other airlines for travel privileges. Please contact our pass coordinator for more information.

International Information – for Travel to Canada

Canadian Tariff (880k)

Will I need a passport?

Yes. Upon landing you will be required to go through Customs where a passport is required. Children are also required to have passports. While there are a few exceptions, we can usually only fly guests with US or Canadian passports. If you don’t have either, please give us a call.

Can I use my NEXUS card or Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL)?

No. NEXUS isn’t available at the terminals we serve and Enhanced Driver’s Licenses are only good for land and sea travel, not air.

Can I bring the kids?

Yes, but there’s more paperwork involved. Border services officers are on alert for children who need protection. Children under the age of 18 are classified as minors and are subject to the same entry requirements as any other visitor. Minors travelling alone must have proof of citizenship and a letter from both parents detailing the length of stay, providing the parents’ telephone number and authorizing the person waiting for them to take care of them while they are in Canada.

If you are travelling with minors, you must carry proper identification for each child such as a birth certificate, passport, citizenship card, permanent resident card or Certificate of Indian Status.

If you are divorced or separated, you should carry with you copies of the legal custody agreements for your children. If you are travelling with minors and you are not their parent/guardian, you should have written permission from the parent/guardian authorizing the trip. The letter should include addresses and telephone numbers of where the parents or guardian can be reached and identify a person who can confirm that the children are not being abducted or taken against their will.

Can I just show up and fly?

No. Customs agencies in the US and Canada require detailed paperwork including passport information, declarations on any goods you might be carrying, purpose of your visit, length of stay and where you will be staying. Sure, we’re neighbors, but it’s still an international flight and Customs has their rules. We need at least two hours from the time paperwork is filed before we can fly.

I’ve had some legal issues, can I cross the border?

If you have committed or been convicted of a criminal offense, you may be prohibited from entering the US or Canada. Criminal offenses include both minor and serious offenses such as theft, assault, dangerous driving, driving while intoxicated (DUI), and manslaughter, moral turpitude, and drug-related crimes among others. If you have any question of whether you may be denied, please consult US Customs (USCBP) or the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

What if I’m denied entry?

Guests denied entry are responsible for their own return transportation. We can pick you up, but this will require a separate flight and fee. This also applies to your pets.
